Following the sad departure of Barrie and Carolyn from our Mens Saturday First Team, the club have been working hard to find their replacement.
Over the past three weeks we have had several applicants put themselves forward for the role, making the decision on a new appointment a difficult one for the club to make. We would like to thank all of those that have shown an interest in taking on the job.
We are now pleased to confirm that Steve Melledew has been appointed as the new Mens Saturday First Team manager, with immediate effect.
Steve has a long playing career in local football, having played for Mortimer, amongst others, for a number of years.
Since starting his coaching career he has spent time at both Mortimer and Pangbourne, alongside his involvement in the Burghfield youth set-up, coaching his son's Under 11's age group. He comes with a strong reputation for developing young players within a well organised and disciplined team unit.
Club Chairman and Mens Head of Age Luke Bishop said: "It was Steve's positive approach and tactical awareness that made the decision for us, plus he is a very well respected man in the game. We are really pleased to bring Steve into our men's set up and now cannot wait to get started - whenever that may be."
Commenting on his appointment, Steve Melledew said: "I'm delighted to get the job. The opportunity was too good to turn down; working in an already strong men's set up with the chance to also focus on the younger players coming through at the club really attracted me to the role."
Steve will be joined by Lee Malham and Craig Adams as First Team Coach and Goalkeeping Coach.
