Burghfield Football Club are delighted to announce that we have signed an agreement with Burghfield Community Sports Association (BCSA) that has seen us take full control of the football facilities from 1st August 2023.
This is a landmark moment for the club, having worked tirelessly over recent years to secure a venue that can be called home.
Due to the rapid and continued growth of the club across all age groups, it had become essential to secure a long-term home, allowing us to maintain growth and continue to offer football to as many local children and adults as possible.
With over 650 members already across our 46 different teams, it is vital that we now have a facility that is capable of allowing us to accommodate both additional training and match pitches alongside our existing venues.
The partnership now ensures that BCSA is the prominent sports facility in the village, not only being home to Burghfield Football Club, but also Burghfield Bowls, Burghfield Darts, Burghfield Skittles and Burghfield Squash clubs.
Despite the new partnership making BCSA the official home of the club, we are pleased to confirm that within our open age set-up, both our Saturday and Sunday Men’s First Teams will continue to be based at Burghfield Recreation Ground, maintaining the presence of these teams within the heart of the village.
What does this mean for the club?
Our new partnership with BCSA will allow us to increase the number of youth matches currently played at the venue. Alongside the additional pitches available we have the added benefit in knowing there is further space to accommodate growth amongst our age groups. This is whilst reducing the need for players, parents and supporters to travel further afield for home matches and maintaining the presence of as many teams as possible within Burghfield itself.
Due to the scale of the club across the age groups, we maintain the need to make use of other local venues in accommodating all of our existing teams. We will continue to use pitches at Burghfield Recreation Ground, Mortimer West End and Willink School, and thank Burghfield Parish Council, Mortimer West End Cricket Club and Willink for their ongoing support.
With BCSA now becoming the official home of Burghfield Football Club, we are delighted to confirm that other events outside of the regular season, such as our annual summer tournament and Presentation Day will continue to be held at the venue for future years to come.
Future Plans
In creating a proper home for the club, we are now in a position to work with the Football Foundation and other funding bodies to secure grant funding to assist with improvements across the facilities.
New goals have already been installed on the 11-a-side pitches and work has been carried out on the pavillion, ensuring a cleaner, fresher and safer environment for players, parents and supporters to enjoy.
We remain in consultation with the Football Foundation in regard to improving the quality of the pitches at both the pavillion and 9 Acres sites.
We will continue to explore all options available to us around longer-term improvements and potential development of the venue to further benefit the growth of the club at all levels.
